The mystery of the rising book "Permanent Magnet"

Another Magna logo

The back cover of Magna's product catalog is printed with the brush character "Permanent Magnet".At the entrance of the Shinjuku head office, there is a signboard with this letter drawn in large letters, which stands out.

This book, also known as Magna's other logo, gradually grows in size as the four letters go from left to right, and rises to the right. On the contrary, it is a slightly mysterious logo whose delicate balance is memorable.

Started business in the "Permanent Magnet" folder

File folder that was handed over to customers with printed matter at the time of its founding

The reason for the mysterious shape goes back to the time when it was founded.About 30 years ago, about a year after the company was founded, when visiting customers, I thought about creating an original folder with the company name that was popular in the United States at that time.At that time, I hadn't made a catalog booklet like the one I have today, so I decided to put some A1 printed matter in a folder and give it to the customer.

Since there were many American customers, I decided to put "permanent magnet" in Chinese characters on the cover to emphasize "Made in Japan".

Rising to the right, getting bigger and bigger

I asked Kazuhisa Ozeki, the chief priest of Daitokuji Temple, who wrote the "Now is the starting point", which was mentioned in the 16th episode of the Yomoyama story.

Since I had just started the company, I hoped that the business performance would improve, and I hoped that the company would grow little by little, so I asked him to write larger letters. At first, Osho hesitated to say, "I have never written such a penmanship," but I was very happy to write the book I wanted, and since then it has become Magna's second logo.

The book is still displayed at the Kugayama factory.Every time I see it, I remember the enthusiasm of the company when it was founded.
